HERE ARE THE MOST COMMON
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
How do I know which leaf spring fits my VW Crafter or VW LT motorhome?
Combine production year, vehicle type (Crafter or LT), drive layout and the number of leaves currently installed. If possible, include the VIN and photos of the rear axle in your inquiry. We cross-check this information in our database to identify the correct leaf spring or reinforcing kit for your motorhome.
My Crafter motorhome rides very low at the rear. Do I need new springs or just reinforcement?
If the springs are still structurally sound but the vehicle sits low when fully loaded, reinforcing or auxiliary springs may be enough. If the springs are flat, cracked or have been previously repaired, we recommend replacing them and, if necessary, combining them with an upgrade kit for extra support.
Is it safe to drive with a broken leaf spring on a motorhome?
As with any heavy vehicle, driving a Crafter or LT motorhome with a broken leaf spring is not recommended. The axle may shift, the vehicle can lean to one side and braking stability is affected. Only drive slowly to a workshop if absolutely necessary and have the spring replaced as soon as possible.
Can VW Crafter / LT leaf springs be repaired with welding?
Welding changes the structure of the spring steel, creating brittle zones around the weld. In practice a welded spring tends to fail again in a short time, which is unacceptable for a fully loaded motorhome. Replacement with a correct new spring is the safe solution.
When should I consider auxiliary or air spring systems on a Crafter motorhome?
Auxiliary and air springs are especially useful on long-wheelbase, high-roof or heavy camper builds. They reduce roll, help maintain ride height and improve comfort under load. They are also helpful for vehicles carrying bikes, tow bars or heavy storage at the rear of the motorhome.
What information do you need to quote parts for my VW Crafter or VW LT motorhome?
Please provide production year, VIN, vehicle configuration (FWD / RWD, single or twin rear wheel) and photos of the springs and rear axle. If available, axle weights from a weighbridge help us recommend the best combination of springs and upgrades for your specific motorhome.
